About me

Ivan baranović

Bio

Hi,

my name is Ivan Baranovic, actor / presenter / producer / art director of "RHYTHM OF PLAY".

I was born in Split. I grew up to the sounds of New wave music and energetic chants of spectators at Poljud stadium and Gripe basketball court in the '90s.

Having finished high school, I moved to Zagreb, where a whole new era of my life began. There, apart from getting to know people and places that changed me for good, I earned a degree in pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry. However, the chemistry between me and the stage was stronger, no point in trying to resist. It was this chemistry that brought me back to Split, where I enrolled in the Theatre Arts Department at the Arts Academy. I graduated under the mentorship of Milan Strljic with a play Roko and Cicibela, which I produced myself and performed more than 50 times all over Croatia.

Through my first theatrical experiences in Split, I fell completely in love with acting. I have acted in all of Split's theatres. Some of these roles that I hold dearly in my memory are: Mile in Miracle at Viper's Glen, Saint Domnius in The Split Aquarelle, Rakitin in Farewell, Natalya Petrovna, Jerry in a duodrama Two for the Seesaw,  Prince of Morocco in The Merchant of Venice, Melkior in Aziz.

Parallel scenes became my way of life, so I started working simultaneously for theatre, film, production and radio. First roles in front of the cameras were for film and TV projects: Saints, German crime series Split homicide (Der Crimi aus Jadran), Some New Actors (Youtube sitcom), All my breakups and Adriatic, Croatia's first amateur feature film.

Profoundly convinced of the therapeutic power of art, in 2017 I joined Red Noses Clowndoctors as an animator/clown. Thanks to the involvement with this organisation, I took part in a number of international trainings, lectures and workshops in the field of sketch comedy.

Early in 2019, I started working on Dalmatia Radio as a host/DJ. At about that time, at Imotski Open University I directed a play entitled Hasanaginica, which, alongside me, features a cast of 13 amateur actors. The aim of the project was to set up an amateur theatre group in Imotski.

After I was granted the status of indepedent artist, I founded a theatre group "Rhythm of Play", of which I am also an art director.

I speak both English (C3 level) and German (B2 level). In my free time I still play basketball, which I trained for over ten years.

I successfully passed courses in basics of singing an dancing while I studied at The Arts Academy.

As often is the case, mere facts say very little about what is going on behind the scenes. When the curtain drops, the lights go off, the camera stops rolling and the applause dies down, feel free to knock on this virtual door. Maybe there is a project we'll have fond memories of just waiting to become a fact in both your biography and mine.

Stay cool and enjoy!
